Tooltip of a link is not exported with HTML Exporter
It is possible as an option to add a tooltip when editing links in Confluence:
This can be either only the tooltip or a link with a tooltip. Neither version is exported using the HTML Export.
The link stays a link, fine so far, but the tooltip never makes it into HTML.
I would like to have this bug fixed.
Thanks & best regards,

Hi Bernd Schneider, thanks for the post.
How were you adding the tooltips to Confluence - were you using the Tooltips for Confluence app?
If so, unfortunately, introducing support for this app through Scroll HTML Exporter would likely not be possible. This is because the Tooltip app fully works in the browser (via Javascript) and does not run during the export process. Therefore, it would likely require the Tooltips for Confluence app vendor to rework their app to support exports.
Were you using this app in your Confluence instance?

Hi Bernd,
Thanks for the reply. Which version of Confluence Server/DC were you using where this option is native to Confluence? In the later versions of Confluence 6 and also in the newer Confluence 7 versions this option was not available for me when editing a link (see below).
For instance, the Tooltips app also adds the Tooltip field to the link settings (like what you've shown in your screenshot).
Once we have some additional details pertaining to your Confluence version we can double check this.
Thanks, Thomas (K15t)

Hi Thomas,
thank you for the quick answer. Hm, I am not aware of using such an app. I have to double check with my admin. At least it seems not to be the app you mentioned:

Hi Bernd, thanks for the reply. Great let us know. Yeah, I think it is unlikely to be the first app I mentioned, but the second one I mentioned seems to add the same functionality that you have displayed in your screenshot.

Hi Thomas,
my admins answered. We are using this app:
https://marketplace.atlassian.com/apps/1213321/tooltips?hosting=datacenter&tab=overview
I would highly appreciate if it could be made possible to have such things in the HTML Export. This is our source to online help. And every function we cannot use there, is kind of lost to our online help, even it is available in Confluence.
Thanks & best regards,

Hi Bernd,
Thanks for confirming the app.
I spoke with our developers and they confirmed that introducing support for these tooltips would likely not easily be possible with Scroll HTML Exporter. This is because the Tooltip app fully works in the browser (via Javascript) and our app does not run JS during the export process.
Therefore, to export the tooltips from this app it is unlikely we’ll be able to add support unless the app vendor reworks their app to support exports as well.
Subsequently, it may be worthwhile reaching out to the vendor to see if they have plans to accommodate this. Let me know what you think.
Kind regards, Thomas (K15t)

Hi Thomas,
I work with Bernd in the same Confluence environment.
In your last post you linked to two different Tooltip apps, so I am a bit confused.
As far as I know, Scroll HTML Exporter does not export 3rd party Javascript modules. What do you mean by a plugin vendor "supporting exports"? What do they have to do so that your exporter can handle it? Are there other Tooltip plugins that you already support?
Best regards,
George -
Hi George, Hi Bernd,
Thanks for the replies.
Sorry, to clarify, what I meant by this was that the app which you're using that provides these Tooltips would need to provide an export mode for these tooltips so that we can include this content in the generated export.
Like you've already made reference to from our separate support ticket, from looking into the Tooltip app it seems to work predominantly in the browser (via Javascript). Therefore, this related content does not run during the export process with our Scroll Exporter apps as they don't process JS.
This means to have this content included in the generated export it would likely require the app vendor to rework their app/macros to introduce an export mode so that the tooltip content is supported in the exports as well.
I hope this helps.
Cheers, Thomas (K15t)

Hi George,
Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, there is not a specific plugin that I'm aware of that provides such a tooltip feature that we can already export. I presume from the apps that exist that the majority probably don't have export modes because tooltips are more associated as a browser/online feature.
However, if there is a macro that outputs the correct HTML for links with a tooltip in the export mode we would only likely need to slightly adapt our Scroll HTML Exporter code to be able to export it correctly. Potentially, it should be possible to create your own user-macro (on server/DC) that is capable of this and this might be an avenue to pursue on your side.
Kind regards, Thomas (K15t)
