Print Version Status in PDF?
I want to print the status of the whole version, or the status of the page as part of the exported PDF, esp if it's DRAFT or REVIEW. Is there a simple macro for this?

What status? :-)
How do the exporter know what the status of your document is?
Anyway: There are a number of macros in the template, that provide metainformation about the document.
For the server version, the documentation can be found here: https://help.k15t.com/scroll-pdf-exporter/latest/server/customize-document-sections-169903644.html - check the section called "Defaule Placeholdes" it seems to be very similar to Cloud.
An alternative is to use page properties as placeholders: https://help.k15t.com/scroll-html-exporter/using-page-properties-as-placeholder-101157357.html - this is our approach to handle this kind of metainformation. -
The (Scroll Versions) workflow status? This seems like a placeholder that is notably missing from the list of Versions placeholders.
While we a talking about placeholders, I have a template with a cover sheet where I want to include an image that is (for example) on the root page of the document. Is it possible to do an image with a page property placeholder? Is there another way to do this?

Ah! We do not use Scroll Version - sorry, "Today I Learned". I agree that seems like an integration that should be present.
I do not think it is possible to include an image via page properties. I would personally create a support request for both of these questions, though. Usually k15t answers very quickly.
