Handling a large number of links pointing to numerous outside spaces - is our strategy OK?

    Hi Patrick.

Could you please clarify where the links are coming from? Are you linking from other master spaces into the target spaces?

    Cheers,
    Roman.

    Hi Roman,

I should have mentioned that the master spaces are all private, and the target spaces are all public.  Yes, we are linking from private master spaces out to the various target spaces that are spawned by other master spaces.  The result is a web of links between public target spaces.  So, when we go up to the next version, there will be all new spaces and the need for new links between them all.

Our strategy at present is to use a versioned inclusions library to handle links, which are referenced by Excerpt+.  This should allow us to avoid versioning pages where the only change between releases is a link update.  We'd just like a sanity check and to ask if there is a better/smarter way to do this.

    Thanks,

    --Patrick

    Hi Patrick.

I think the current approach you have is the best way for now. I have asked the developers and they agree that this is the best you can do.

How would you like it work to best feet your needs?

    Cheers,
    Roman.

Thanks, Roman & team for validating the approach.  It'll take some effort to set up, but should be fairly low-maintenance afterward.

Thinking about how to improve this, we could take this concept ahead one more step and be able to use excerpts only for space keys in given links for our links which are pointing to the same page name in a different space (so we wouldn't need an excerpt for every single link).  Or be able to use variables, and have the ability for variables to work within links (for space keys) with values that were different for different versions.

Thanks as always for your help.
